The Kawanishi H8K2 (Allied codename "Emily") was the Imperial Japanese Navy's large four-engine flying boat, widely regarded as the best flying boat of WWII. The H8K2 featured heavy defensive armament including 20mm cannons, self-sealing fuel tanks, and armor protection—unusual for Japanese aircraft. With a range of over 4,400 miles, the Emily conducted long-range maritime patrol, reconnaissance, and transport missions across the vast Pacific.
