The KV-1 was the Soviet Union's first truly successful heavy tank, and the early 1941 production model shocked the Wehrmacht during Operation Barbarossa. Its 75mm armor was virtually impervious to German 37mm and 50mm anti-tank guns, and the 76mm F-32 gun could engage all German tanks of the period.
