The Bf 109G-6 "Gustav" was the most-produced variant of the Bf 109, the backbone of Luftwaffe fighter units from 1943 onward. It featured the powerful DB 605 engine and could mount two underwing 20mm MG 151/20 gondola cannons for bomber interception, earning the "Beule" (bump) nickname for its enlarged cowling. The G-6 fought on all fronts from the Defense of the Reich to the Mediterranean. Tamiya's 1/48 kit features the DB 605 engine detail and gondola cannon option.
