The Fairey Swordfish "Stringbag" was an anachronistic biplane torpedo bomber that achieved extraordinary results despite its antiquated appearance. Swordfish crippled the Italian fleet at Taranto in 1940, fatally damaged the Bismarck, and sank more tonnage than any other Allied aircraft.
