The North American F-51D Mustang in Korean War service — redesignated from P-51D when the USAF became an independent service in 1947. Despite being a WWII-era piston fighter, the Mustang proved invaluable in Korea as a ground attack platform, carrying rockets, bombs, and napalm in close air support missions.
