The A-10 Thunderbolt II, affectionately known as the "Warthog," is the US Air Force's dedicated close air support aircraft, built around the devastating GAU-8/A 30mm rotary cannon. Designed by Fairchild Republic for survivability in low-altitude combat, the A-10 features redundant flight systems, titanium armor protecting the cockpit and critical systems, and engines mounted high to reduce FOD and IR signature. Despite repeated attempts to retire it, the A-10 has proven indispensable in every conflict since the 1991 Gulf War.
