The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk, nicknamed "Heinemann's Hot Rod" after its designer Ed Heinemann, was a compact, lightweight attack aircraft that served the US Navy and Marine Corps from 1956 through the 1990s. The A-4E and F models introduced the J52 engine and additional weapons pylons, enhancing the Skyhawk's already impressive payload capacity relative to its tiny size. Heinemann famously delivered an aircraft half the Navy's specified maximum weight, proving that simplicity and light weight could outperform complex, heavy alternatives. The Skyhawk also served as the primary adversary aircraft at Top Gun. Hasegawa captures the compact delta-wing design.
