Tamiya 1/700 Waterline Series model of the IJN Matsu, lead ship of the Matsu-class escort destroyers. Designed for rapid mass production as Japan's shipping losses mounted, the simplified Matsu-class traded offensive capability for anti-submarine and anti-aircraft defense. Armed with three 127mm guns and 24 depth charges, these austere warships were built in as few as five months. Matsu herself was sunk by the submarine USS Mingo in August 1944.
