The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk — Ed Heinemann's masterpiece of simplicity — was designed to half the Navy's weight specification for a jet attack aircraft, resulting in a nimble 10,000-pound airframe that could deliver nuclear or conventional weapons from carrier decks. The E/F/G variants added the distinctive dorsal avionics hump ("camel"), upgraded J52 engines, and improved weapons delivery systems. Skyhawks served with the US Navy and Marines from Vietnam through Desert Storm, and remain in service with several nations.
