This battle set recreates the four devastating battles of Monte Cassino (January-May 1944), where Allied forces fought to break through the German Gustav Line blocking the road to Rome. The ancient Benedictine monastery atop Monte Cassino was controversially bombed but the ruins provided even better defensive positions for German paratroopers. The set includes Allied and German infantry with monastery ruins and mountain terrain.
