German Fallschirmjäger (paratroopers) were among the most elite soldiers of WWII, famous for their assault on Crete (1941) — the only successful large-scale airborne invasion in history, though at such cost that Hitler forbade further major drops. Fallschirmjäger continued to fight as elite infantry in Italy (Monte Cassino), Normandy, and the Ardennes. Their distinctive helmets, jump smocks, and FG 42 automatic rifles made them instantly recognizable. This 1/72 Italeri set provides Fallschirmjäger in combat poses.
