The IAI Kfir C2 was Israel's indigenous fighter aircraft, developed from a reverse-engineered Dassault Mirage 5 airframe mated to the General Electric J79 turbojet engine. The C2 variant added fixed canard foreplanes and dogtooth wing leading edges that dramatically improved low-speed handling and combat maneuverability. The name "Kfir" means "Lion Cub" in Hebrew. The Kfir served as the backbone of the Israeli Air Force from the mid-1970s through the 1990s and was exported to Colombia, Ecuador, and Sri Lanka. Hasegawa captures the distinctive delta wing with canards and the J79 engine exhaust.
