The Mitsubishi G4M "Betty" was the IJN's primary land-based medium bomber throughout the Pacific War, achieving extraordinary range at the cost of crew protection. Its lack of armor and self-sealing fuel tanks earned it the grim nickname "Flying Lighter" from its own crews. Bettys sank HMS Prince of Wales and Repulse, and Admiral Yamamoto was killed when his G4M was shot down over Bougainville.
