The Maiale (Pig) was Italy's revolutionary human torpedo — a slow-moving submersible ridden by two frogmen who attached limpet mines to enemy ships. On December 19, 1941, three Maiale teams penetrated Alexandria harbor and sank the British battleships HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Valiant, one of the most audacious special operations of WWII. The Decima Flottiglia MAS operators wore early diving suits and navigated using a simple compass. This 1/35 Italeri kit includes the Maiale torpedo and two Decima MAS operator figures in diving gear.
