A good Gunpla display starts with three checks: the model fits the space, the stand fits the model, and the pose stays stable. Get those right before buying extra lighting or filling the shelf with more bases.
You can make a single finished kit look intentional with a clear viewing angle and some breathing room. This guide walks through the practical choices, from a standing pose to an Action Base and an original custom display platform.
Measure the whole pose
Measure the usable width, depth, and height of the shelf. Account for a cabinet door, shelf lip, lighting hardware, or anything else that intrudes into the space. Then consider the model in the pose you want: wings, rifles, shields, and a leaning support arm can extend far beyond the feet.
A simple planning trick is to cut a paper rectangle to the base's published dimensions and place it on the empty shelf. Add room around it for the model's accessories and for your hands when you need to dust or reposition it. This is a layout aid, not a load test.
For several models, vary their position before buying risers. Try one focal model with smaller or lower poses beside it. Leave sightlines to the faces and distinctive equipment rather than placing every kit shoulder-to-shoulder.
Standing pose or supported pose?
A standing pose may not need a separate stand if the exact model is stable as assembled. Start with the feet resting fully on a level surface and make small adjustments while supporting the torso. A heavy backpack or long weapon changes the balance.

Keep the manual and any included display adapter after assembly. A small part that seems optional during construction can be essential for mounting the finished model correctly.

Bandai's official Action Base 7 page describes a structure intended to support 1/144-scale plastic models with adjustable axes for posing. That is a useful starting point, not a universal compatibility or weight guarantee.

Reach: can the arm support the desired pose without pushing the model far outside the base?

Clearance: will the arm and connector collide with armor, skirts, or accessories?
Use Bandai's manual library to check the exact model and base where their instructions are available. Model name, grade, version, and finish all help avoid confusing one release with another.
Set up and test the pose gently
Assemble the stand in the order shown in its manual. Seat connections correctly and follow any locking or fastener instructions.
Support the model with one hand while attaching its intended adapter. If alignment is wrong, stop and recheck; do not force the fit.
Begin with a low, compact pose over the base. Make one adjustment at a time while supporting the model.

For routine dusting, support the model and use a clean, soft brush with light strokes. Remove easily detached weapons before moving the build. Avoid household sprays on unknown plastics, stickers, or painted finishes; a display model may contain several materials with different care requirements.
Keep spare hands, adapters, effect parts, and instructions together in a labeled container. Write the full kit name on it. That makes changing a pose later easier and reduces the chance that the right connector ends up in an unidentified parts pile.
Add an original display base when it solves a real problem
