The JMSDF DDG Atago is a guided missile destroyer of the Atago class, Japan's most capable surface combatant. Equipped with the Aegis Combat System, the Atago can track hundreds of targets simultaneously and engage multiple threats with SM-2 and SM-3 missiles. The Atago class represents Japan's contribution to ballistic missile defense in the Pacific, capable of intercepting ballistic missiles in the upper atmosphere.
