The F-35B is the short takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL) variant of the Lightning II, designed for the US Marine Corps and Royal Navy. Its Rolls-Royce LiftFan and swiveling exhaust nozzle enable vertical landings on amphibious assault ships and ski-jump carriers without catapults. Despite the added STOVL system weight, the F-35B retains full stealth capability and sensor suite. Tamiya's 1/72 kit features the distinctive dorsal LiftFan door and vectoring nozzle details.
