The Jaguar XJR-8 was the Tom Walkinshaw Racing-developed Group C prototype that returned Jaguar to front-line sports car racing in 1987. Powered by the venerable Jaguar V12 enlarged to 7.0 liters and producing over 700 horsepower, the XJR-8 won eight of ten World Sports Prototype Championship rounds in 1987 and finished strongly at Le Mans. The car's distinctive purple Silk Cut livery became one of the most recognizable in motorsport history. The XJR-8 laid the groundwork for the XJR-9 that would win Le Mans in 1988, ending a 31-year drought for Jaguar at La Sarthe.
