The Toyota Starlet Turbo-S (EP71) was the hot hatch variant of the third-generation Starlet, produced from 1984 to 1989. Powered by the 2E-TELU 1.3-liter turbocharged engine producing 110 horsepower in a car weighing just 800kg, the Turbo-S delivered an extraordinary power-to-weight ratio. The early model featured the pre-facelift angular bodywork with distinctive "shark nose" front end. In Japan, the Starlet Turbo-S was an accessible entry into performance motoring, competing with the Honda City Turbo and Suzuki Cultus GTi.
