The Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster succeeded the legendary Gullwing coupe in 1957, replacing the iconic doors with conventional ones (enabled by a redesigned lower sill) and adding a proper folding soft top. The roadster retained the 3.0-liter fuel-injected straight-six and space-frame chassis while improving practicality and rear suspension handling. Many consider the roadster the more beautiful of the two 300SL variants, its flowing lines uninterrupted by the Gullwing's high door sills.
