MiniArt Unveils "Frankenstein" Stuart & Winter Tank Riders for the Ultimate Bulge Diorama

Armor modelers, clear your bench. MiniArt has just dropped the full details for two upcoming 1/35 scale releases that seem purpose-built for late-war Allied dioramas.

Headlining the announcement is the M3 Stuart Hybrid (Kit #35466), a quirky but historically significant variant that mixes early and late production features. Accompanying the tank is a new figure set, U.S. Tank Riders Winter 1944-45 (Kit #53045), finally giving us high-quality, plastic injection infantry designed specifically to ride on engine decks during the freezing European winter.

MiniArt continues their domination of the Stuart family, but this "Hybrid" release is particularly exciting for history buffs who love transition vehicles.

1. M3 Stuart Hybrid (Kit #35466) This isn't your standard "Honey." The "Hybrid" designation refers to a specific wartime manufacturing oddity where factories utilized remaining stock of different parts.

  • The Mix: This kit features the M3 riveted hull combined with the M3A1 welded turret (with the cupola removed).

  • Engine Specs: It depicts the specific version fitted with the Guiberson T-1020 diesel engine, a rare powerplant compared to the standard petrol engines.

  • Markings: The kit includes decals for:

    • New Zealand Service

    • U.S. Army (Kasserine Pass, Tunisia)

    • Captured German Wehrmacht version (Beutepanzer)

2. U.S. Tank Riders Winter 1944-45 (Kit #53045) Finding natural-looking figures sitting on tanks is notoriously difficult. This set fixes that.

  • The Poses: Contains 4 figures sculpted in "relaxed but alert" seated poses, designed to fit on the flat engine decks of Shermans or Stuarts.

  • The Gear: They are clad in heavy winter gear (M1943 field jackets, wool overcoats, and gloves), making them perfect for Battle of the Bulge or Ardennes scenarios.

  • Bonus: Includes a generous spread of weapons (M1 Garands, Thompson SMGs) and personal kit to clutter up the tank hull.
